The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
